I'M A CHRISTIAN...NOW WHAT?
This Prayer Request comes to me from a friend in Key West Florida:
"Dear Mark: Please keep our names confidential as we do not want to embarrass our Pastor. We need prayers for our Pastor [name redacted] he is an elderly man who has been serving our congregation for over thirty years. He has been loved and trusted for many decades. He often preaches on relationships, trust, and accountability. He teaches about what it means if we stop running away from Jesus' pursuit of us and allow ourselves to be caught by Him. How He will give us a new, forgiving heart and the fruit of the Spirit will come alive in us: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:22-23 NIV)."
We come to church after being beat up by the world and find family, friends, and trusted relationships.
Our elderly Pastor has ingrained in us that when we hurt others we are not just hurting them but we are hurting God Himself and grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30 NIV) and will be held accountable for our actions (Matt. 25:31-46).
But in the last few months he has been hurting the very ones he used to encourage, teach, and counsel. He has been making false promises and ignoring the ones he has hurt. He stands in the pulpit and teaches about love and forgiveness and then condemns our loved ones and pretends to be above accountability.
He has even won over some of our leadership so they are becoming like him. Our Pastor is dear to us but this is tearing our congregation apart. We know that the answer has to come from our Lord, and we are in constant prayer about this. We need as much prayer as possible. We don't know if this is coming from old age or simple pride but he is no longer the man of God we have come to know and lover for so many decades. Please put this request in your local prayer chain as well as on your website and anywhere else you can think of."
